A Whole Boatload Of Trouble

Uh, oh... we might be sailing for trouble. According to Reuters: “One person was killed and three others injured on Monday when a U.S. Navy ship fired at an approaching fishing boat off the United Arab Emirates, but officials did not immediately blame terrorism or cite an Iran-link to the still murky incident.”

“Why the boat approached the U.S. refueling ship, the USNS Rappahannock, was still unclear, U.S. officials said. But the U.S. Navy said the small motor boat ignored repeated warnings to halt its approach before a security team fired rounds from a .50-caliber machine gun.”

No big deal you say? One little fishing boat got sunk because it got too close to one of our ships, so what? Have you not noticed that almost all of our wars were started by boats?

1. The Civil War was started when a Confederate warship attacked Fort Sumter.

2.  Remember the Maine? Its sinking started the Spanish American War.

3. We entered World War One when a German sub sank the British ocean liner the Lusitania.

4. World War Two began for us when the Japanese sank a boatload of ships at Pearl Harbor.

5. The Viet Nam War started with the “Gulf Of Tonkin Incident” where the USS Maddox fought a battle against three North Vietnamese torpedo boats.

Never underestimate the power of one little fishing boat to set off the start of World War Three. It’s happened before.
