There was an article in the Times today about two brothers who produced their own album back in 1978 which was recently re-released by a label called Light In The Attic and now it’s becoming a hit.
According to the article the music buying public (the kids, although they’re more the downloading for free music public) don’t care when music was made, if they like it they like it. Back in the Seventies the massive compilation series Nuggets released the garage band tracks of 1965 - 1966 and became popular enough to span several sequels, although no major hits. It did make it all the way to number 196 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Of course, this was a selection of songs from many, many bands, some of which actually had hits when they were first released such as Paul Revere and the Raiders’ Just Like Me.
This “new” album though, “Dreamin’ Wild” by brothers Donnie and Joe Emerson is a complete record of their own original music recorded in their home recording studio when they were just teenagers. It didn’t do anything at the time but now it’s becoming popular due to the Internet. I guess it’s never too late to get a second chance.
See Donnie and Joe's story here.
